Increasing Capacity for Rural Economic Advancement through Solar Energy

FREED operates in rural, marginalized areas, most of which have very limited access to goods, technologies and services. This isolation leads to rather limited opportunities for economic development, which also limits their capabilities to further their children’s education and welfare.

Following the successful completion of the ASCEND Resiliency Program, the InCREASE Program aims to empower marginalized, isolated communities through improvement of production and/or value chains of existing livelihood and economic activities through the implementation of solar-powered equipment and a community-centered enterprise model. Rural economic activities that this program supports include:

  • upland agriculture

  • lowland agriculture

  • fishing

  • aqua culture

  • crafts
