HARALD SCHUTZEICHEL, Vice-chairman

The German Stiftung Solarenergie - Solar Energy Foundation is working for poverty alleviation through solar energysince 2004. Beyond providing sustainable energy access to remote areas our goal is to create jobs. Because there is hardly something more formative for the future prospects of a person, as the opportunity to build a lucrative livelihood based on their own work. For their own survival and that of their family.

After first projects in East Africa we also started in the Philippines - and today the Philippines is our major working area in Asia. The local foundation also became a founding member of a finance cooperation for solar companies in developing countries.

The efforts of Stiftung Solarenergie Philippines to empower individuals and communities without electricity through the introduction of solar energy is an exciting undertaking. Its programs for education, health, communities and emergency response have an immediate, life-changing and sustained impact. As a Filipino-American, it is a privilege to be part of an organization that makes such a meaningful and positive contribution to the development of the Philippines and also provides an opportunity to re-connect with my Filipino heritage. I look forward to sharing the StS Philippines story with other Filipino-Americans and encouraging them to support its on-going success.

Stiftung Solarenergie Philippines reaches the poorest of the Filipinos, often in the most remote locations. It is unthinkable that 20 million Filipinos still do not have access to power, something so basic yet so vital.

We are here to bring light, to improve education, to allow for safer childbirth, and to aid in times of disaster.

The staff

BAMBI REYESExecutive Director

StS is a family passionate about lighting up lives and brightening communities.

Every day is a fulfilling adventure! We work with everyday heroes (teachers, health workers, emergency responders, parents, tribal elders, enthusiastic children), go to hard-to-reach places that welcome us with Mother Nature’s gifts of beauty and abundance, and be inspired by people that greet us with the warmest of hearts and the brightest of smiles.

BOYAX ENRIQUEZ, Director for Mindanao

For about 30 years now, I have been with various social development organizations doing community empowerment. I like being with StS because of the challenges and excitement that goes with the job. It also gives me the opportunity to be with the most neglected people in the country.

RUSS JAMILIProgram Coordinator

StS allows me to realize my passion for community service and environmental care. I personally advocate for empowerment rather than dependency and StS is set to do the same. As an educator, disaster awareness advocate, environment advocate, and a health buff, StS programs allow me to do the things I love doing most.

The organization also gives prime importance to relationships among the team which allows for honest feedbacking and helps everyone to improve.

PING TERENCIO, Cluster Coordinator

Working in far-flung communities with Indigenous Peoples (IPs) is not new to me as I have been working with NGOs for about 30 years now. But working with StS has given me a different feeling of fulfillment.

Being able to facilitate basic service — providing light through solar power — to remote communities, looking at people’s faces, especially children, marveling in amazement seeing lights at night in their community for the first time in their lives, give me happiness no words can exactly describe.

MOJA TOMAS, Lead Technical Officer

While working in a lending office for a private company before, I believed then that lending money to other people will help them grow. But working with StS has been an eye-opener for me, helping people by involving them in community projects is a better way for them to grow as individuals and as a community.

JP ABUCAY, Assistant Technical Officer

I love working with StS because of three reasons:

  1. Being part of this team means being part of a family
  2. Seeing the joy in families, especially children
  3. I get to see new places and meet new people for free

VIC GONZALO JR, Technical Officer for Mindanao

Being a member of StS is being like a superhero because even though there are certain risks, we persevere to be a bridge to deliver lights to our kababayans who need brightness in their lives. It also allows me to share my knowledge, passion, and ability about electrical systems.

ERICA ABUNDA, Programs Support Officer

What drew me to StS was the mission to provide clean and sustainable energy. What makes me appreciate working with StS is that we help empower communities as a whole.

Also, getting to help create the StS Philippines’ brand identity is an amazing opportunity (and here I was worried I would disappoint my father for letting my college degree go to waste by getting into nonprofits).

JEFF ROSALES, Finance Officer

Being a part of this organization is a great opportunity for exciting and challenging work, career growth and learning development, and working with great people. I am very grateful to be working with a supportive boss, in a team in which I am recognized, valued, and respected.

I also value the purpose of the organization and I am very happy to have experienced its mission.
